Art on a Postcard's (AOAP) Summer Auction is a must for art lovers keen to explore the booming trend of miniature art, all in support of The Hepatitis C Trust. This year’s auction brings together an exciting group of guest curators. Gallerists India Bhattacharjee and Lovisa Bernston, founders of Berntson Bhattacharjee in Fitzrovia, present a vibrant selection featuring KV Duong, Xu Yang, and Shannon Bono. Alice Amati curates a deeply introspective collection, including works by Roberto de Pinto, Martyn Cross, and Lulua Alyahya. German artist Hanna ten Doornkaat offers a beautifully abstract curation, joined by artists like Zavier Ellis and Annamarie Dzendrowskyj. From THE TAGLI gallery, Bella Blake and Dimitrios Tsivrikos showcase multidisciplinary talent, including Lottie Stoddart, Afonso Rocha, and Piers Alsop. Alongside them, AOAP director Gemma Peppé has assembled over 100 postcard-sized works from acclaimed artists such as Ethel Coppetiers, K Blick, Amy Beager, and Sabrina Shah.

Bella Blake is the Director of THE TAGLI. With a background in spatial design and a BA of Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts, she knows how constructive and fruitful conversations about art and artistic practice can be. Bella co-founded Collective Gallery, a gallery pop-up space providing opportunity for experimentation, inclusivity and physicality for emerging artists. She has a particular interest in enhancing artistic practice through strategy and curation; guiding emerging artists as they enter the art market, whilst challenging preconceived notions of art and the gallery in the market context. She is excited by the prospect of facilitating meaningful connections between artists and clients.

Dr Dimitrios Tsivrikos is a noted gallerist, curator, art advisor, and auction specialist. Educated in art history and curation at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), with more than a decade of experience, he guides his clients to acquire exceptional works of art that are tailored to their individual aesthetics, goals, and needs. Prior to founding THE TAGLI, Dimitrios established a London-based gallery, whilst gaining international acclaim for leading sales with Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and other premiere auction houses.

Hanna ten Doornkaat
Lots 297 - 368

Hanna ten Doornkaat’s work is an ongoing investigation of the meaning and concept of painting versus drawing. Her works on wood panels are defined by a complex process of repetitive mark making and erasure, of revealing and concealing. Layers bear witness to the tension between silent contemplation and the cacophony of modern life, the spaces between as noteworthy as the lines themselves.

Initially trained in sculpture, ten Doornkaat not only questions the purity of abstracted lines and shapes, but also challenges the boundaries between two and three dimensions.

More recently she put down pencils and pens to experiment with a different medium, thread and needle to draw lines with. The general idea of the line remains at the centre of it and the questioning of what constitutes a drawing.

Often initiated by a fleeting glimpse, overheard phrase or fragmented memory, an idea may be concealed until ten Doornkaat adds a final layer when naming her works. Whether paying homage to conceptual artists whose theories have influenced her practice, offering a pragmatic description of a drawing’s formal characteristics, or providing a glimpse into her state of mind, words not only inspire the work but complete the artist’s contemporary palimpsests.
